CNJC promoting linguistic diversity at the European Youth Forum General Assembly

On the 23rd and 24th of November the European Youth Forum was held in the Belgian city of Ghent with linguistic diversity being a key topic in the discussions that took place. The Catalan National Youth Council (CNJC) presented a motion that defends linguistic diversity as a fundamental aspect of the cultural heritage of Europe and an integral part of an inclusive and democratic Europe. The proposal, which had the support of Tutmonda Esperanto Junulara Organizo (TEJO), the Youth Council of Spain (CJE) and Youth of European Nationalities (YEN), underlines the importance of preserving the cultural and linguistic richness of Europe. The motion put forward by the CNJC included the request to have Catalan as an official language of the institutions of the European Union. This motion successfully passed in the European Youth Forum, which is recognised and funded by both the Council of Europe and the European Union.

The CNJC and the Network to Promote Linguistic Diversity worked together in drafting this motion that aims to preserve the cultural and linguistic richness of Europe and its more than 200 languages. We would like to thank the CNJC for their efforts in safeguarding the linguistic diversity of Europe and the European Youth Forum for voting in favour of this motion.
