NPLD members discuss artificial intelligence and linguistic diversity at the European Parliament
On 30 September 2026, NPLD representatives participated in “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Supporting Linguistic Diversity in Europe”, an event organised at the European Parliament in Brussels by Javi López MEP and Google Europe.
The session included an intervention by Kartikeya Swami, Director of Product Management at Google Search, followed by two roundtable discussions involving Members of the European Parliament, regional governments, institutional representatives, technology experts, and social and community projects.
Discussions explored how artificial intelligence can help overcome linguistic, accessibility and cultural barriers, and how cooperation between public institutions, civil society and the technology sector can ensure that languages such as Basque, Catalan and Galician remain visible and fully integrated into the digital environment.
NPLD was represented by Aitor Aldasoro of the Basque Government, Roger Serra, NPLD Vice-Chair and representative of the Government of Catalonia, and Valentín García of the Government of Galicia, who contributed their experience in regional language policy and digital development.
