HIGA! 2023

The key to the future of minority languages will be that new generations want to revitalize them. Also, networking between different language communities allows sharing of experience and knowledge and the creation of networks of cooperation.

Bearing this in mind, HIGA is the Summit of Young Speakers of Minoritized Languages and aims to create a network of young language revitalizers from all over the world, after five days of activities in the Basque Country. HIGA will gather more than 75 young language activists. The activities organised include workshops on language revitalization and activism, creation of networking projects on language revitalization, team-building activities, and cultural events among others.

The fourth edition will be held on 17-21 July 2023 in Gasteiz, and it’s organised by Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, with the support of the Basque Government as well as the University of the Basque Country, providing an academic background to the event.
