Bartomeu Riera Tarongí new Chair of the NPLD
Bartomeu Riera Tarongí, Deputy Director of the Institute of Balearic Studies, has been appointed to replace Miquel Àngel Sureda Massanet as the Chair of the NPLD in representation of the Government of the Balearic Islands.
Bartomeu Riera has two degrees in Economics and Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Treasury, Taxation System and Tax Procedures. He is a regular Catalan speaker and has been a public servant of the Government of the Balearic Islands since 2005. Over the last 15 years, he has been the head of administration of two public bodies in the Government of the Balearic Islands: the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra Foundation and the Balearic Islands Business Public Entity for Telecommunications and Innovation (IBETEC). Currently, he works under the adjunct directorship of the Institute of Balearic Studies, the public entity that promotes Catalan knowledge and social use.
Bartomeu will follow up the proposal put forward by his predecessor: urging the European institutions to create specific programmes based on the recognition and promotion of regional and minority languages, promoting respect for the linguistic rights of all citizens or urging the EU to promote technological development for all the languages of Europe, among others.
