European Day of Languages – 26 September 2023, 12:00 to 14:00

On-line conference broadcast and web streamed from Brussels using Interaction tool for interpreting services to EN, FR, DE, ES, IT

The European Day of Languages (EDL) on 26 September is a well-established opportunity to raise awareness about language learning and linguistic diversity. It was established in 2001, jointly by the European Commission and the Council of Europe, and it has gained in popularity every year since then. Many language and cultural institutes, associations, universities and, in particular schools, take part in various events and activities organised throughout the EU .

This year at the European Commission’s central event, we will discuss the EU’s tools to help language teachers boost their capacity, notably Erasmus + and the European School Education Platform.

At the same time, we will celebrate the European Year of Skills given that multilingualism is one of eight key competences needed for personal fulfilment, a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, employability, active citizenship and social inclusion.

We’ll connect with some of the European Day of Language events  taking place across the European Union (EU) Member States. Young people, teachers and other participants will tell us how they feel about languages and how they influence their life.

We will also discuss the main results of the 2023 Eurydice Key Data on Teaching Languages in Europe
