Mentrau Iaith Cymru is the national organisation which supports the network of local Mentrau Iaith across Wales.
The Mentrau Iaith are one of the ways in which Welsh communities take action to promote and facilitate the use of the Welsh language. Over the years the Mentrau Iaith have proven to be an effective community development model, making a difference to the communities that they serve. There are 23 local Mentrau Iaith whose work cover the whole of Wales. The main aim of MIC is promoting the Welsh language by supporting the local Mentrau Iaith. We do this across Wales by holding a wide range of community activities and projects to promote the language and its use.
Our target groups for activities and support are wide-ranging, and include children and young people, families, the community, learners, businesses, public bodies and third sector organisations.
Our goals:
-Influencing public policy for the benefit of the language. -Supporting individuals, groups, organisations and institutions to increase their use of Welsh. -Co-operating with others to market the Welsh language and the benefits of bilingualism.
